SARB

WHAT IS SARB?

The School Attendance Review Board is a community-school volunteer board which meets with students and their families to assist in solving student attendance and behavioral problems.

The purpose of SARB is to divert students with school attendance or school behavioral problems away from the juvenile justice system and to assist families in finding ways to ensure prompt and consistent attendance in Modoc County schools.

WHAT IS THE SARB PROCESS?

The School Attendance Review Board meets once a month at Alturas City Hall to examine individual student cases. After each school district refers a student to the SARB, they are evaluated by a panel of thirteen community members who are drawn from various organizations within our county.

These organizations are listed as follows:

  • Modoc County Office of Education (2)
  • Modoc Joint Unified School District
  • Tulelake Basin Joint Unified School District
  • Surprise Valley Joint Unified School District
  • Modoc County Sheriff's Department
  • Modoc County District Attorney's Office
  • Modoc County Child Protective Services
  • Alturas Police Department
  • Modoc County Probation Department
  • Strong Family Health
  • A Non-Affiliated Community Member
  • R.I.S.E

After the evaluation process has taken place, this board then votes on a list of directives the student is obligated to adhere to. Subsequent monthly meetings are then held to evaluate and track student attendance and educational progress until the board sees evident improvement.
