An Evening with Tom Torlakson - Leading for Quality Education

At a county superintendent's meeting in January, Jay Speck, the Solano County Superintendent, approached Sheila Jordan, the Alameda County Superintendent, and me (Gary Jones) as we were engaged in a conversation about education and politics. He mentioned an article in The Economist entitled "Modocians and Alamedans" about our two counties being politically opposite and that it was nice to see the two of us were friends. (A segment of the article and a link to the full article is available in the "MCOE News" section of this webpage.)

With The Economist article in mind, when Ms. Jordan invited me to attend "An Evening with Tom Torlakson" in Berkeley, I agreed. She then, graciously, gave me a tour of several of her county's schools and programs. It was an extremely enlightening day.
