Modoc County town full of givers

They give a lot in Canby.

The tiny Modoc County town and its ZIP code is the most charitable in the United States, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy.

The 645 residents in the 96015 ZIP code who filed itemized tax returns in 2012 gave a total of $436,000, or 18 percent of their income. As a whole, Modoc County residents gave 3.37 percent of their income.

Siskiyou was the most generous county in California as residents there gave 3.53 percent of their income for total contributions of $13,747,000, the study said.
