Sequestration would cut $6 million from Monterey County schools

"We run a lot of federal programs: Head Start, Migrant Ed, special ed, a lot of those programs would be cut," said Nancy Kotowski, superintendent of Monterey County schools.

The 8.5 percent cut across the board to federal programs in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District would mean a $1.2 million cut, according to the county's calculation. "That's a lot of money for our kids," said Dan Albert, MPUSD's associate superintendent of business services
