Administrative Advisory Council (AAC)

The AAC is the governing board for the Modoc County SELPA. The AAC holds a minimum of two public meetings each year to conduct policy-making activities. The goal of the policy development process is to provide policies that realistically anticipate the needs of individuals with exceptional needs - administratively, professionally, and educationally, together with parent and community needs. With these policies in place, the Modoc County SELPA is better prepared to provide the services needed by these individuals. [A calendar of the 2010-2011 meetings is provided for your information. See attachment.]

The AAC is comprised of the following administrators:
  • Modoc County Office of Education County Superintendent or designee
  • Modoc County Office of Education Assistant Superintendent
  • Modoc Joint Unified School District Superintendent or designee
  • Surprise Valley Joint Unified School District Superintendent or designee
  • Tulelake Basin Joint Unified School District Superintendent or designee
  • Modoc County SELPA Director - as an ex-officio member
There are four (4) voting members, one from each district and the Modoc County Assistant Superintendent. The County Superintendent, as the Responsible Local Agency (RLA) representative, mediates any ties.

Any policy statement adopted by the AAC is submitted to the RLA Board of Education, where the policy is reviewed and approved as written or returned for revision. Final policy approval is the prerogative of the County Board of Education. Participating district boards will be advised of these policy changes by their district superintendent. [See attachments for AAC-adopted policies.]

The AAC is responsible for creating and updating the Local Plan for Special Education for Modoc County. [See attachments for a copy of this document.] This document is reviewed by the California Department of Education when any revisions are made.

Another responsibility of the AAC is to approve and adopt an Annual Budget and Service Plan, which is submitted to the California Department of Education for approval. [See attachments for a copy of the most recent report.]
